Gorgeous coloured images of women at war

Quelques 350 000 femmes ont servi dans les forces armées américaines entre 1941 et 1945. Le journal Life, entre autres, a commandé des portraits en couleurs de femmes au travail, entre hommage sincère et propagande. C'est de ces reportages qu'est née l'image de "Suzy la riveteuse" qui a fait le bonheur des affichistes et des publicitaires de l'époque.

Congressional Gold Medal. Meanwhile, widespread male enlistment left gaping holes in the industrial labor force. Between 1940 and 1945, the female percentage of the U.S. workforce increased from 27 percent to nearly 37 percent, and by 1945 nearly one out of every four married women worked outside the home...
